ClawZania Is Coming to Forney With Claw Machines, Plushies and Prizes
FORNEY, TEXAS: Forney is getting a new kind of entertainment business, and it involves three things kids are already dangerously good at: pressing buttons, grabbing stuff they probably do not need, and convincing their parents to spend another $10.
ClawZania, a family-focused claw machine arcade, is coming to Forney. The city has approved a conditional use permit for an amusement-device/arcade operation at 140 Wildwood Boulevard, clearing the way for the new business. The city's current zoning records show the application, Z2026-09, was approved by the Planning & Zoning Commission on June 4 and by the Forney City Council on July 21. (forneytx.gov)
The exact opening date and final address details have not yet been announced publicly by ClawZania. The company's website currently lists "Clawzania Forney: Coming Soon" with the address still marked "TBA." (clawzania.com)
So, what exactly is a ClawZania?
Think of your typical claw machine, the one you've lost $17.50 to at the grocery store while insisting, "I've almost got it," and imagine an entire business built around it.
That's ClawZania.
According to the company, the concept is built around winning small plush prizes and then trading them up for bigger prizes. Many of the machines take one or two tokens per play, and customers can keep the plushies they win or trade eligible prizes toward larger rewards. (clawzania.com)
And here's the part that may make parents slightly less angry when their child inevitably announces that they need another turn:
ClawZania says its machines are designed so customers can actually win. Employees can also rearrange or reset prizes to make them easier to grab when someone is having trouble. (clawzania.com)
In other words, this is not necessarily the traditional claw machine experience where the machine appears to look at you, laugh internally and then gently drop the stuffed animal you've spent six dollars trying to capture.
The Forney franchise's applicants told the city they wanted to create a family-oriented arcade aimed at children, while also providing a place where teenagers and adults could hang out. They specifically cited Forney's rapid growth and its large population of young families as reasons for choosing the city. (forneytx.gov)
And there is more than just stuffed animals.
ClawZania's broader concept includes photo booths and collectibles, including anime figures, blind boxes, trading cards and other items. The company describes the experience as "catch, trade and upgrade," essentially turning a successful claw-machine run into a tiny economy where a handful of plushies can eventually become something substantially bigger. Forney's Entertainment Scene Keeps Growing
This is happening at an interesting time for Forney.
The city is in the middle of a pretty serious expansion of its entertainment options. EVO Entertainment is under construction and is expected to bring movie theaters, bowling, arcade games, rock climbing, bumper cars, laser tag and other attractions to the U.S. 80/Gateway area. (evo-cinemas.com)
ClawZania is obviously a much smaller operation, but it occupies a completely different niche.
You do not need a two-hour commitment to go clawing for plushies. You do not need to strap on bowling shoes. You do not need to plan your entire afternoon around it.
You can apparently just walk in and immediately begin making financially questionable decisions involving stuffed animals.
For parents, that could actually be the appeal.
The Forney Location
The city documents identify 140 Wildwood Boulevard as the location for the ClawZania conditional use permit. (forneytx.gov)
ClawZania has not yet announced the official opening date, store hours or a finalized public listing for the Forney location. Its website currently lists the Forney store as coming soon, with hours and address still to be announced. (clawzania.com)
ClawZania already operates locations in several Texas cities, including Arlington, Austin, Carrollton, Denton, El Paso, Richardson and the Fort Worth area, along with locations outside Texas. (clawzania.com)
The Forney franchise operators told the city that while this will be their first ClawZania franchise, they have been working with the franchisor and were involved with the opening of the company's recent Haltom City location. (forneytx.gov)
Forney's Instagram account for the new location is @clawzania.forney.
So What Should Forney Expect?
Probably a lot of kids walking around carrying plush animals that were definitely not part of the original shopping plan.
ClawZania's business model is pretty simple: play the machines, win prizes, collect them, trade them up if you want, and repeat until someone realizes they have been standing in front of a claw machine for 45 minutes.
The company says the goal is to make the experience more welcoming and winnable than a traditional arcade claw machine. (clawzania.com)
And honestly, Forney seems like a pretty logical place for it.
We've got families. We've got kids. We've got rapidly growing neighborhoods. And, most importantly, we've got parents who have already been trained by Target, Costco and Buc-ee's to hear the words "Can I have this?" approximately 900 times per day.
Now they'll have somewhere new to say no.
Or, more realistically:
"Fine. One more token."
And everybody knows that means eight more tokens.
