Historic Homes Tour Returns December 6

Forney’s beloved Historic Homes Tour is back on Saturday December 6 from 5 to 8 pm, offering residents a fun and festive look inside six of the city’s most charming historic houses. It is a relaxed, walk friendly evening where you can wander from home to home, meet docents and homeowners, and enjoy a little bit of Forney history up close.

Tickets and Pricing

Tickets are on sale now at the Spellman Museum of Forney History, Kindred Market, and Groovy’s in Downtown Forney.

On the day of the tour, you can also buy tickets at the historic Brooks House at 500 S. Center Street.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $8 for kids twelve and under.

What You Will See

This year’s tour features six homes: four along Center Street, one on Border Street, and one on Austin Street. All homes will be open the entire time from 5 to 8 pm, and visitors can explore them in any order they choose. Each ticket includes a simple map of the locations. Docents and homeowners will be on hand at every stop to share details about the architecture, the history, and any special features of the home.

Parking and Getting Around

Street parking will be limited, so visitors are encouraged to use downtown public lots and walk to the homes. Four houses are on the same street just two blocks apart, and the remaining two are also close to each other across Bois d’Arc. Recommended lots include the Kaufman County Sub Courthouse lot at Main and Center and the Firehouse Church lots at Bois d’Arc and Brooks. Lighted crosswalks make it easy to get across Bois d’Arc safely.

Connection to Christmas on Main

Although the tour is on the same day as the city’s Christmas on Main event, they are separate happenings. Christmas on Main runs earlier in the day from 10 am to 4 pm. Some downtown streets may remain closed for a while afterward as crews clear the festival area, so expect a few traffic adjustments.

What Visitors Should Know

Some rooms or yard areas may be closed off for privacy or safety and will be clearly marked. Since these are private homes, accessibility may be limited, and some houses include stairs or uneven floors. Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended because surfaces vary inside and outside the homes, and some routes may guide visitors through porches or gravel driveways.

The Historic Homes Tour is a cozy way to step into Forney’s past while enjoying the start of the holiday season. It is one of those community traditions that makes downtown shine, and this year’s lineup promises a memorable evening for families, friends, and anyone who loves a good historic home.
